The studio

Thrown by hand, so no two match.

Every piece is thrown on a wheel in a studio of six people, dried for a week, bisque fired, glazed by dipping and fired again to 1,260°C. That is why the glaze pools differently on each bowl and why a set of four is a set of four individuals. It is also why we make a few hundred a month rather than a few thousand.

Shipping, returns and care

The answers people write in about, in full. If something here does not cover your question, the assistant in the corner reads these same pages.

What is your return window?

30 days from delivery, unused and in its original packaging. Start it from your order confirmation email or by replying to any message from us, and we will send a prepaid label. Refunds go back to the original payment method within 5 working days of the parcel reaching us.

Who pays for return shipping?

We do for anything faulty, damaged in transit, or sent in error. Change-of-mind returns cost $4.95, which is deducted from your refund rather than charged separately. Returns from outside the UK are at your own cost.

How long does delivery take?

UK orders placed before 2pm on a working day ship the same day and arrive in 2 to 3 working days; free over $60, otherwise $4.95. Next-day delivery is $7.95 and must be ordered before 2pm. Europe takes 3 to 6 working days at $12. The rest of the world takes 6 to 12 working days at $22. Every parcel is tracked and you get the number by email when it leaves us.

Something arrived broken. What now?

Send a photo of the piece and the box within 14 days of delivery and we will send a replacement on the next dispatch, or refund it in full if it is out of stock. There is no need to return the broken piece — please recycle it. Stoneware is fragile and a small number of parcels do not survive the journey; this is our problem, not yours.

Is the stoneware dishwasher and microwave safe?

Yes to both, and to the oven up to 220°C. The glaze is vitrified at 1,260°C so it will not craze or absorb odours. Avoid moving a piece straight from the fridge to a hot oven — thermal shock is the one thing that will crack it. The unglazed foot ring can mark a soft surface, so a mat is worth using on a lacquered table.

How do I wash the linen?

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent, no bleach and no fabric softener — softener coats the fibre and stops linen absorbing, which is the point of it. Tumble dry low or line dry, and iron on the linen setting while slightly damp if you want it crisp. It softens for about ten washes and then stays there.

Where is everything made?

The stoneware is thrown and fired in our own studio in Stoke-on-Trent. The linen is woven and cut in Porto from European flax grown in Normandy and Belgium. The walnut serving pieces are turned in Devon from timber felled within the UK. Nothing is made outside Europe.

Can I order a piece that is out of stock?

Yes — add your email to the waitlist on the product page and we will write to you the morning the next firing lands, which is usually every three to four weeks. Joining the waitlist does not reserve a piece or take payment; stock goes to whoever orders first.
